SUCCESS!!!
As many of you will have heard announced on JJJ, the Cure are confirmed for the Livid festival in October! There are about 40,000 tickets left and the festival is expected to sell out. This was only confirmed with Michael Coppell on Wednesday. While originally we were expecting to hear of two extra shows in Sydney and one in Melbourne, the current word is that a show is to be played in 'each state'. If this is the case, it would be a very good deal, considering that Canada as a whole got just one concert. Nonetheless, it remains to be clarified exactly what 'each state' means (it would for example, seem very unlikely that the band would visit Tasmania, as they skipped Tas on the much larger Wish tour).
Whatever is announced, it is expected that the Livid show will be the final of the Australian tour. Meaning that the band were visiting Perth, they would be likely to start in Perth and work eastwards. The total duration of the tour is expected to be around two weeks, with a strong emphasis on sightseeing along the way. Given that the Livid show is on Saturday the 21st of October, it's possible to guess to some extent what time the band would be likely to visit each city. We must emphasise though, that any details of a further tour remain as yet unconfirmed.
We'd like to take this opportunity to thank everyone who has signed this petition (currently around 700 of you), and to those who made valiant attempts to do so... Even though we were significantly hampered by technical problems, it would seem that the petition was nonetheless a significant factor in the course of negotiations, particularly for the organisers of Livid. So again, THANK YOU!!!
STAY TUNED for News of additional tour dates!

Big assistance has come our way, with Francis Leach mentioning the petition on the JJJ Morning Show, and Jim Trail hopefully mentioning it this weekend. As a result we have received a big boost in the number of signatures. However, there is still a large discrepancy between the number of signatures and the number of unique hits to the site. We suspect this is due to ongoing problems with the Guestbook severs, which, unfortunately, our beyond our control. To represent this, we are updating Fiction on both the number of signatures we have received and the number of unique hits.
Thanks to everyone for their ongoing support with this. A tour is now being very strongly rumoured and the petition has already played a part in negotiations. We hope to be able to bring you definite news soon.

We have been contacted by the Australian promoters who are expecting a decision within the next week. They have indicated their interest in presenting this petition to the band as they feel it could make a difference in their negotiations over the next few days - watch this space. Now is the time to get as many people to sign as possible.
Wednesday, July 19
Robert has again mentioned
the possibility of an Australian Tour (see Chain
of Flowers for more on this). Discussions with Fiction and Michael Coppell
also confirm that a decision is still being made, though it is possible a
tour of Australia might not happen until after the end of the year. No parties
involved believe that the Cure have played the final concert of their career,
and Robert's statements (see above) would certainly seem to confirm this.
A large part of the decision would appear to be in the hands of tour manager/assistant
Darryl Bamonte - something such as a petition could remain pivotal in the
current atmosphere of uncertainty. So keep signing!
On a less upbeat note, there have been reports of incidents of flaming of the Australian Smashing Pumpkins petition, involving a 'promotion' of this petition in the process, and resulting in considerable disruption to the Pumpkins petition. We were very surprised and concerned by such actions, do not support them in any way at all, and wish the Pumpkins petition every success, hoping that fans of both bands can continue to be mutually supportive of each other, in spite of such an exceptional incident.

The band is still in the process of making a decision re. the tour. It is clear that the possibility of a tour still remains open.
Entry logging is now fully underway. We will be updating the number of signatures frequently from now on.

In addition to the information on the index page, it should be noted that Fiction records are taking interest in this petition, and have told us that they will pass it on to the band. Thanks very much to Fuji for all his help with this.
We also currently have a backlog of email. We shall be attending to this asap.
Thursday, June 29
The petition should be working again now. Please let us know if you have any problems signing or viewing the guestbook.
A promotion for the petition appeared yesterday in Melbourne's BEAT street press.
The petition has been announced on the Caravan Radio show on Melbourne's 3RRR.
Paper petitions are currently being setup in Christchuch, Melbourne, and Perth.
We have been given indications (from the Australian promoters) that late October is currently being considered as a possible tour time. A decision may be taken as soon as a week from now. Stay tuned for updates...
